Newsflash

For the first time in the race's history, there will be NO "On the Day" entries at the Thame 10k this year.  We have held off imposing this restriction for as long as possible, however the scale of our event and the race day organisation it involves no longer allows us the flexibility of offering late entries, so we recommend you enter as early as possible to avoid disappointment.  We have been taking entries through the Runners World website for a few weeks already and now the 2010 Thame 10k Entry Form form is available to download from our website.  Simply click on the link, print out and return with your payment as per the instructions.

Annual Dinner and Prize Giving.

This years Thame Runners Annual Dinner and Prize Giving evening is going up market and will be held at the award winning pub The Green Dragon, Haddenham on 27th March.  The evening will start with social drinks at the bar followed by a meal of 3 courses (a choice of 3 plus veggie options for each course) and then a fairly swift award ceremony for club championship, cross country, club handicap and club champions during the 2009/2010 season.  We hope to finish the prize giving early enough to allow people to get back home to babysitters and pets or to continue to enjoy the evening in the comfortable surroundings of the Green Dragon.

The ticket price is a very reasonable £25 a head and the area of the pub we will be seated at can accomodate 40 diners, so if you would like to attend please don't hesitate to contact Pete White to book your ticket ASAP. Late bookings may find themselves in a different room !!

The menus will be available in the next 10 days.

Call up for the Teddy Hall Relays

Any Thame Runners who would like to take part in the Teddy Hall Relays, an Historic event, orgaised by St. Edmond Hall, The University of Oxford on Wednesday 10th March from 12:30, please contact Andy Byerley.  The event is a highly competitive 4 leg relay attracting Oxford University college teams, local clubs and other universities.  Each leg is around 5k, starting from the Ifley Road sports track where Sir Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile, proceeding down the Isis towpath to Iffley Lock and looping back heading into the stadium for the finish.  We realise that not everyone can take an afternoon off work, but we hope to muster 2 or more teams. Interestingly, Howard Papworth our very own Dapper Don, is a Teddy Hall veteran.  He was part of the organising committee of the event in 1976 and has already put his name into the hat for 2010. So let's make his comeback a very special day.

Coaching

At a recent Thame Runners committee meeting the subject of Coaching was discussed and we would like to hear from any experienced runners in the club that would be willing to help others by structuring some training sessions for the club.  This is not meant to be an elite super-human squad building excercise.  Rather, we would like to start informally, see how well it goes and build our coaching capability slowly over the next few years.  To start we envisage an informal but regular session where we can all learn from experience and set about the task of running improvement, no matter the start point, slow or fast.  Please contact Andy Byerley to volunteer or for suggestions.

2010 Club Championship - Update

Please note that there has been a change to the August Championship race from The Burnham Beeches 10k (no such event in August !!)  to the Bearbrook 10k with date to be advised.

Also, well done to the 7 or so thame Runners who took part in the Watford Half Marathon today and who kicked of the season in style.  Results and points to follow.

Andy Byerley, Chairman

Chiltern Cross Country League

Well here we are at the tail end of another cross country season so if you haven't done any races, this is your very last chance!   We are currently 5th overall in the league with only a measly 62 points between us and 4th place Wycombe Phoenix. A really good turnout for this race would probably be enough to get us up to 4th place.

The final race will be on Saturday 13th Feb at Cottesloe School in Wing. Instructions for the race are on the Chiltern League website.

A couple of things to take note of:

  1. The revised race times. The men's race is at 2:30pm and the ladies race is at 3:15pm.
  2. Car parking can get a bit tricky, so leave enough time for parking. Car share if possible- meet up at the Thame leisure centre at 1pm.

For those who've raced at Wing before, the course has been modified to reduce the number of times that competitors have to go through the gates and the mud. (Hurrah I say!).  As per usual, please drop Richard Slater or Hayley a quick email to let us know if are planning on running.

News Update 28th Jan

Hi All,

For those of us that made it to the very informative and useful talk yesterday evening by George Anderson, the local personal trainer, you will know that one of the topics he described was the ‘Foot Plant’.   For those of you who missed the live session, then you can watch Georges Video on Youtube.

Well this morning I noticed this article on the BBC news web site home page and thought that you would be interested in seeing the article…** Shoes may have changed how we run ** .  Wearing cushioned running shoes may have changed the way in which many of us run, new research suggests.

Kind regards,
Pat P
