February 13th 2010 - Wing
A good showing by Thame Runners for the final race of the Chiltern XC League completed a full turnout for the season and secured a 5th place finish in the 2nd division, which was an improvement on last year, so all in all an excellent result.
It was on the chilly side at Wing, the last fixture, but not too much wind and not too soggy underfoot, which made going reasonably good over this hilly course. In our first race of the afternoon, Andrew Byerley led home to win the Mens Club Cross Country Champion title for a second year in succession. He was closely followed by Howard Papworth who picked up 2nd place in the Chiltern League VET50 honours and Richard Slater, who finished overall 3rd in the Mens Club Cross Country championship.
In the next race, Christine Murray led home again to secure the Thame Ladies Cross Country championship, stealing the crown from Barbara Orth who has been a worthy champion of 6 successive years. Like they say, all good things must come to an end.
There were team prizes for 3rd placed Ladies Seniors, Mens Veterans and Ladies Veterans teams, so all in all a very successfull campaign for the club again. Well done to all who took part.
