Club Championship 2010 PDF Print E-mail

This section of our website gives you the latest news of our club championships for 2010 and the line up of fixtures which are set to be a fiercely contested over the forthcoming season.

The divisional structure remains the same as last year, with 3 divsions and no separation of the Ladies and Men as in previous years.  As with last years championship, runners will be included in this years challenge by default when they enter any Championship race with a declaration of being affiliated to Thame Runners.

The season starts with a runners choice event in early February at the Watford Half Marathon and closes in December with the popular cross country course at Cliveden.

With a focus on local meets we expect higher participation in 2010.  There will be plenty of opportunities to run against your friends and rivals at the club, we hope to ensure a higher level of competition for the club championship titles.  There will also be plenty of chances to achieve personal best times during the course of the season with 2 fixtures over each of the regular 5k, 5m, 10k, 10 mile and half marathon distances in addition to the club handicap.  We can look forward to a very enjoyable and varied championship indeed.   The races have been selected according to a new set of guidelines this year as follows:

Proposal – Championship Race Selection Guidelines

1. There will be seventeen races in the season.

a. Five months with two runners’ choice races

b. One month (July) with 1 race and the Club Handicap race

c. Five months with one race

d. No race in January

2. August should be one of the months where we have two runners choice races if possible. This will help club members to select a race during the heavy holiday period.

3. There should be at least two races, but no more than five races, for each of the PB distances of 5K, 5M, 10K, 10M and Half Marathon.

4. A variety of terrain should be introduced for all events; mostly road but also XC and multi terrain.

5. In general races should be as local as possible, with local defined as being within approximately 25 miles radius of Thame. However, there is an opportunity to schedule races further afield during the five months of runners’ choice events. During these months one of the races could be outside the 25 miles radius if it helps to provide the variety of distances and terrain.

6. No single event should be in the championship for more than two consecutive years wherever possible. After a race has appeared for two consecutive years in the championship it is recommended that it does not appear again for at least one more year.

7. Clashes with the same weekend as the Chiltern XC League fixtures should be avoided in October, November, December and February. Where dates of races in these months are not known alternatives should be given until such time as confirmation is available.

8. Sometimes championship races have to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances – race cancellations, postponements because of weather conditions etc. In these circumstances the committee retains the right to alter the championship schedule and inform the membership accordingly. Wherever possible three months notice should be given to the membership of any such changes.
